40 Things That Aren’t Allowed At Disney World

A few common-sense things that aren’t allowed at Disney

I love the way cast members throughout the Disney Parks and Resorts do everything in their power to make sure you have a magical time. But for the safety and enjoyment of others, there are some things that simply aren’t allowed at Disney World.

Some of these are common sense expectations of behavior in a civilized world.

If there weren’t some rules, regulations, dos and don’ts it would NOT be the happiest place on earth. Nowhere near it. It’s disturbing that some items on this list even have to be mentioned.

If your mama would have paddled your bottom for it, you shouldn’t be doing it. Anywhere.

Take a look at these Disney no-nos before you go so that you won’t have any unpleasant surprises during your trip.

For Your Safety

Unsafe Activities not allowed in Disney

Setting off fireworks, leave that to the pyrotechnic pros.

Running in the theme parks, sometimes you need to walk fast, but don’t run

Skateboarding, heelies, segways, in-line skates, or hoverboards. I’m sure there will be new variations on this as time goes by, but if it’s on wheels, and NOT a stroller, wheelchair, or EVC it’s not allowed.

Swimming in water rides, stay out of the water at Pirates of the Caribbean, Kali River Rapids, It’s a Small World. If it’s not at a Water Park, it’s not water you should be playing in.

Standing up on rides, it’s careless and dangerous.

Children under 14 cannot be unaccompanied.

Children under 7 cannot ride any attraction alone.

Matters of Policy and Not Allowed at Disney

Spreading the ashes of a departed loved one, people want to do it especially at Haunted Mansion. But you know what? If you sprinkle them anywhere inside the Haunted Mansion, they are just going to be vacuumed up after the park closes for the night. Aunt Agnes’s ashes are going to wind up in a landfill. How sentimental is that?

Costumes and masks may not be worn by anyone over the age of 14, except during special events such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. There are restrictions to costumes worn during those events and you can get the details here.

Smoking or vaping inside any theme park is not allowed. Check a park map for designated smoking locations.

Flash photography on attractions that prohibit it.

Filming during rides.

Filming a movie.

Using tickets or wristbands belonging to another person.

Feeding animals or birds.

Things You can’t bring into a Disney Park

Giant strollers, strollers cannot exceed 31W x 52L.

Stroller wagons, large coolers, or rolling coolers. Lockers are available outside the park if storage space is needed.  You can find details about locker rental here.

Loose or dry ice. Use freezer packs instead to keep things cool. A couple of frozen water bottles makes the best cooler for your backpack. Slip them into an old (clean) sock or wrap in a towel. This will absorb the sweat.

Glass containers (small baby food jars are OK).

Balloons. So if you are park hopping and bought a balloon at the Magic Kingdom and are planning to go to Hollywood Studios, you won’t be allowed to bring the balloon into Hollywood Studios. You will be asked to leave it with Guest Relations and pick it up on your way out.

Weapons of any kind. That includes Swiss Army Knives. Even toy knives or lightsabers. Even if you have a permit to carry a weapon.

Alcohol.

Folding chairs.

Selfie sticks.

Smoke or fog machines.

Political signs, banners, teeshirts, or pamphlets.

Megaphones, horns, whistles, noisemakers or musical instruments.

Animals that aren’t service animals. You can find more information on the policy regarding service animals here.

Just Plain Bad Behavior Not Allowed at Disney

Cutting lines.

Trying to sneak on rides or backstage.

Trying to make your child appear taller to get around the height requirement. Standing on tippy-toes or wearing a hat won’t work with cast members who monitor this.

Going barefoot or shirtless (except in water parks).

Swearing, inappropriate language or harassing a cast member.

Public intoxication.

Fighting.

Avoid Further Trouble

Follow the simple common-sense Disney World rules and you will have a great time.

Attempting to violate policies will turn ugly for you. Avoid doing any of the following:

Bringing in a weapon, alcohol, or drugs.

Harassing a cast member or another guest.

Public intoxication and the bad behavior that (sometimes) goes with it.

These behaviors could result in getting more attention from an Orange County Sherrif’s Deputy than you want.

Some things that aren’t on the list but should be.

Don’t…

yell at your children or others in your party.

pick your nose (you’re not invisible).

ruin the day for other people.

disregard the people around you when on your phone, whether you’re talking, taking pictures or filming.  Loud personal conversations are of no interest to other people. Holding your phone or device up to film or photograph frequently blocks the view of people behind you. Courtesy counts.

Do Your Part

There’s so much that you CAN do and cast members will go above and beyond to make sure you have a magical day.

Follow the simple policies regarding safety and civilized behavior and you will have a much, much better time.
