Halloween Ideas for Kids
The Tradition of Halloween Costumes for Kids
It makes total sense that in the olden days, children were enlisted to scare evil spirits away. During the end of summer celebrations, they dressed in costumes and masks, roamed the streets, and made a lot of noise. So not much has changed.
I’m thinking they didn’t have much choice in costumes. Not like today. We have animal costumes for people to wear and people costumes for animals to wear.
And then, of course, there’s Avenger costumes, princess costumes, bowl-of-cereal costumes. It’s only limited by one’s imagination. And DIY skills.
That’s why I’m suggesting costume ideas that don’t require highly developed artistic skills to provide Halloween magic for your kids. Unless you have those skills, then consider this inspiration.

Dress up your child as their favorite character whether the costume is ready-made or you put it all together yourself. See what’s hot.

Halloween treats
The usual scary foods like Witch’s fingers, eyeballs, and brains have to be a part of the Halloween snack table.
Create treat bags for kids that include a variety of treats and goodies. The treat bags can include as much or as little candy as you desire. Reduce the chances of an allergic reaction by eliminating those culprits entirely.
Decorate with these Treat bag toppers made for standard sandwich or snack bags. They are easy to download and print and you can print as many as you need. See them on Etsy.
Fun Halloween activities
Trick-or-treating is the top of the list for Halloween activities, but if you have access to a corn maze or pumpkin patch try to fit that in. Hosting a scary movie night and making slime are big hits with the kids.
Use this printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt checklist and watch the fun begin. Print out as a single checklist or as a double for team play. Have the kids collect the items or take a picture. Prepare to give prizes to the child/team who scores the highest. This can be printed out year after year. See it on Etsy.
Halloween Traditions
We used to Trick or Treat all over our very large neighborhood. We were equipped with a pillowcase to collect as much candy as we could carry.
The school would create a Haunted house in the gym. A neighbor would put on a Halloween party with pumpkin-carving contests, bobbing for apples, scary food like bowls of grapes that were supposed to be eyeballs.
There would be a huge bonfire outside. I think that’s where the adults hung out with their own particular brand of spirits.
Scary movies, trick or treating, pumpkin carving. Whatever your Halloween traditions are, I know you will find something that will give your whole family the thrills and chills that are only found during this scariest of nights.
