IMHO
Texting, tweeting, and facebook posts have changed the way we communicate in casual circumstances. More than just using slang, it is abbreviated, truncated, and we are using quirky symbols to express emotion. We disregard the rules of grammar, punctuation, and usage. The key here is that it’s for casual communication. Current slang or lingo is accepted. It’s expected.
Even blogging employs a more conversational style of writing. You can be humorous. Or terse. You can be long-winded or more economical. You can use short sentences. Really. Short. Sentences.
All of this is fun and you can be wildly creative in conveying a message.
At work or school, acceptable practices look completely different. Your reputation, your job, your professionalism is a priority. You want to convey this at work or at school. What you say and how you say it in a professional context is critical. It’s the difference between getting that passing grade, or job, or promotion, or contract, or customer or not.
I let Grammarly do some of the tedious work for me. I downloaded the free version and started using it to improve the quality of my work. A quick check of spelling, punctuation, and grammar means that what I write, whether it’s an email, a document or a blog post, is error-free. I can focus on the content and get my point across without the distraction of typos.
